1. Consular application form (निवेदनको ढाँचा)

One form is used for these services: Travel Document (यात्रा अनुमतिपत्र), Nationality Paper (नागरिकता प्रमाणपत्र), Signature Verification (हस्ताक्षर प्रमाणीकरण), Marriage Letter (विवाह सम्बन्धी पत्र), and Power of Attorney / document attestation (अधिकृत वारेसनामा र अन्य कागजात प्रमाणीकरण).

2. e-Passport pre-enrollment (विद्युतीय राहदानी)

New passports, renewals and replacements are applied for online first at online.nepalpassport.gov.np, choosing Appointment Location: NE, Tokyo, then visiting the embassy on the appointment date with the printed form and documents. Passport fees (Japanese yen)

A child’s first passport does not need a biometric visit. Post the documents to the embassy. The embassy creates a temporary birth record and issues the passport with that number.

3. Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) ID card

There are two application forms depending on the applicant’s nationality.

A. Nepali nationals currently living abroad

Required for new, renewal and loss/damage:

  • Duly filled application form (above)
  • Nepali citizenship certificate and its copy
  • Nepali passport and a copy of its biographic data page
  • Documents related to business in Japan, or proof of employment in Japan
  • Three recent auto-size photographs (2.5 cm × 3 cm)
  • Loss/damage: a copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID and an application declaring the loss or damage
  • Self-addressed pre-paid return envelope with tracking number (not needed for self-pickup)

Fee: ¥9,000 (cash) for new or renewal. Confirm the loss/damage fee with the embassy.

B. Foreign nationals of Nepali origin

  • Duly filled application form (above)
  • A copy of the Naturalization Certificate
  • Original passport and a copy of its biographic data page
  • Proof of Nepali origin, one of:
    • First generation: a copy of the applicant’s own former Nepali citizenship
    • Second generation: a copy of the father’s or mother’s Nepali citizenship
    • Third generation: a copy of a grandparent’s Nepali citizenship plus a document proving the relationship
  • Three recent auto-size photographs (2.5 cm × 3 cm)
  • Proof of profession, business or employment in the country of current nationality (if applicable)
  • Self-addressed pre-paid return envelope with tracking number (not needed for self-pickup)
